Let the Zearn times roll! Until Feb. 13, our elementary and middle schools are taking on the Zearn Mardi Gras Challenge! The goal is simple: Students should complete an average of 3 Zearn lessons per week while building strong math skills and confidence. At the district level, we’ll cheer on our schools, highlight participation and celebrate our top schools at the end of the challenge.

Step One: Log into your Zearn account. Students should log into Zearn and complete the lessons in the “Next Up” tab.

Step Two: Complete the target number of lessons! Set a goal to complete 12 digital lessons.

Need support? Families can find more information here:

Through consistent practice and perseverance, our students are building confidence and strengthening their problem-solving skills every day.

The ֱ has expanded its partnership with Waltham, Massachusetts-based Evolv Technologies Holdings Inc., deploying advanced security screening systems across additional high school campuses to enhance student and staff safety.

According to a BusinessWire press release, EBR Schools, which first installed Evolv Express® weapons detection technology last year, has now added the systems to eight additional high schools. That brings the total to 12 high schools using the AI-based screening technology.

In partnership with Alliance Technology Group, the expansion replaces the district’s older walk-through metal detectors. Evolv Express allows students, staff and visitors to pass through screening at a natural walking pace, helping reduce congestion while still detecting concealed threats.

“Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff,” said John D. McCann, chief of operations for EBR Schools. “By partnering with Alliance and Evolv, we are able to leverage innovative solutions that help us stay ahead of evolving security challenges while helping maintain a welcoming atmosphere for learning.”

The systems have been adopted in more than 1,300 school buildings nationwide and are part of a broader national trend of schools leveraging artificial intelligence for safety screening.

The ֱ’s Early Childhood Community Network will celebrate Early Education Week, Feb. 2–6, with its first-ever open house tours, highlighting the importance of high-quality early learning for children from birth to age 4.

To kick off February as Early Education Month, EBR Schools will launch Early Education Week by affording prospective families with a glimpse into the experience of pre-K learning atmospheres.  Parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to tour classrooms, meet teachers and learn about early childhood services and enrollment options for the upcoming school year.

“Early Education Week is designed to raise awareness, strengthen partnerships and connect families with opportunities that lay a strong foundation for literacy, social-emotional development and long-term academic success,” said Shenoa Thompson, executive director of the EBR Early Childhood Community Network.

The week will culminate with a special Early Education Day program from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Second Baptist Church Academy, 910 N. Acadian Thruway W. The event will bring together school officials, community leaders, early childhood providers, funders, stakeholders and families to spotlight early childhood education in Baton Rouge and discuss future investment needs.

In addition, the network will host its first Pop-Up Extravaganza from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 28 at the River Center Branch Library, 250 North Blvd.

A full list of participating sites and schools is available at:

The ֱ is closely monitoring the winter weather forecast expected this weekend and into early next week.

Our team is in constant communication with local meteorologists and emergency partners as we evaluate conditions and determine whether we can safely hold school on Monday. This includes monitoring temperatures, road conditions, and the potential impact on buses, campuses, and facilities.

We will provide a decision regarding school operations and any possible closures early Sunday afternoon, once the most up-to-date and reliable forecast information is available.

As of the latest forecast, we are planning to be open on Monday.

We appreciate your patience as we take the time needed to make a decision that prioritizes the safety of our students and staff while also considering the needs of our families.
